CALL TO ORDER PRESIDENT: Ruth Writer opened the meeting at 6:01 pm

MOTION by S. Tobler, SECONDED BY Member C. Lee the agenda for the regular meeting of July 15, 2019 be adopted as written.

SUPERINTENDENT/

DEPARTMENT REPORTS

–          Mr. Donahue updated the Board on the hiring process for the new Moccasin Elementary Principal.
COMMUNITY DIALOGUE CITIZENS CONCERNS –          G. Brinkley:  Stated her children were provided great opportunities through the Math and Science center and wanted the board to reconsider providing financial support for students. She also apologized for being at the last meeting and speaking illegally due to ORS rules she was unaware of and should have not addressed the board and she apologized for coming that night.

–          K. Berry: Any update on the timeline for the parental advisory committee.

R. Writer advised that we are looking to include more diversity within the committee.

–          S. Dodson:  Regarding the Culture Survey she was sorry it was not on the agenda and a goal without a timeline does not get done. Parent group wishes to help and staff voices need to be heard in a timely manner. Our group will be sending out our own survey by July 30; it will be anonymous and Ms. Carlin can’t wait to share the results with the Board.

Motion By J. DeVlaminck, Seconded By S. Tobler, The Board of Education ratifies the tentative agreement with the Buchanan-5C Education Association/MEA/NEA as recommended by Superintendent Donahue. K. Laesch stated that she was glad to see the agreement reached and ratified by both parties. R. Writer thanked both the BEA and the district administration for their efforts in reaching this agreement.

RESOLUTION TO APPROVE TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH BUCHANAN ASSOCIATION OF PARAPROFESSIONALS Motion By J. DeVlaminck, Seconded By K. Laesch, The Board of Education ratifies the tentative agreement with the Buchanan Association of Paraprofessionals, as recommended by Superintendent Donahue.

RESOLUTION TO CERTIFY BVA GRADUATE

 

Motion By K. Laesch, Seconded By S. Tobler, The Board of Education certifies Buchanan Step-Up student ALEXXA REED for high school graduation, as recommended by Superintendent Donahue.

RESOLUTION TO APPROVE INITIAL CONTRACT FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL Motion By J. DeVlaminck, Seconded By R. Writer, The Board of Education approves an initial employment contract for administrator Shelby Beasley to serve as middle school principal for the 2019-20 fiscal year, as recommended by Superintendent Donahue. Mr. Donahue introduced Ms. Beasley to the Board; she thanked the Board for the opportunity to work with our students and staff and she looks forward to getting started at Buchanan Middle School.
