COMMUNITY DIALOGUE CITIZENS CONCERNS | Mr. Jon LaPorte of Niles FFA Alumni and Friends informed all of the top 16 FFA program competition occurring January 8, 2019, 6:30pm at Niles High School. Mr. LaPorte expressed how Buchanan students have been involved in this event for the past three years and encouraged all to support our students with the FFA Alumni & Friends chapter. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Ms. Henckel was presented with a gift and certificate of appreciation. RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT BUCHANAN TREE FRIENDS | MOTION BY Member J. DeVlaminck, SECONDED BY Member R. Writer, The Buchanan Board of Education hereby adopts the following resolution of support:
Whereas, a public school district is tasked with providing for the safety and welfare of its students and to educate students in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment; and Whereas, we exercise our values set forth in our mission: preparing students for life-long success; our vision: to develop responsible, resilient, creative citizens capable of succeeding in a global community; and our beliefs: opportunities for students – high student achievement – continuous improvement – partnerships with families – safe, supportive, respectful environment; to support our community and the children and families of our district; and Whereas, the Buchanan Tree Friends is a local community group with the current goals towards health and growth of present and future environmental sustainability in our community. Now, therefore be it resolved that the Buchanan Community Schools and its Board of Education support the current goals, mission, and initiatives of the Buchanan Area Tree Friends; and furthermore pledges cooperation with Buchanan Tree Friends for new trees added to district campus areas; the Board additionally resolves to encourage alumni, graduating classes, and other district stakeholders to consider donations and gifts of new trees for district campus areas in partnership with the Buchanan Tree Friends. EMERGENCY/SECURITY PLANNING COMMITTEE | MOTION BY Member H. Burnett, SECONDED BY Member D. Wentworth,The Buchanan Board Of Education hereby resolves to authorize the establishment of an emergency & security planning committee and for its members to be appointed by the Board of Education at the annual organizational meeting scheduled for Monday, January 7th, 2019.
The Board further resolves that this new committee will include representative members of district staff, operations leaders, and other personnel the Board committee members may designate. The new committee will also consult with local and county emergency planning units to ensure best practices are implemented. The Board further resolves that this new committee will be a separate entity from the current district crisis team, which will still function to address trauma-inducing or social/emotional welfare matters for district students, staff, and community members. After the core Board members for this committee are appointed in January, the full committee will meet as soon as possible thereafter to begin reviewing current emergency plans and policies, drafting and recommending updated and comprehensive security protocols for district buildings, and drafting and recommending new policies for building access, doors, and security. SNAP-RAISE FUNDRAISER REQUEST – BCS BASKETBALL | MOTION BY Member S. Tobler, SECONDED BY Member R. Writer,The Buchanan Board of Education approves the athletic department’s request as submitted by Athletic Director Lonnie Hoover, to use the email based fundraiser program, SNAP-Raise to utilize text and social media for the BCS basketball program’s 2018-19 school season. This email based fundraiser allows for friends and family globally to donate to a specific cause without purchasing a service or product.
